MyNationwide Functional Redesign and Brand Integration |
||
Through the course of 2005, I lead the usability and interface design effort on the self-service portion of the Nationwide Insurance web presence. This includes functions such as viewing your insurance bill, paying a bill online and requesting changes to an insurance policy (such as adding a vehicle). The list below shows a number of deliverables from throughout the year. The links in the deliverable column will open up that file. They start with the most recent deliverable and work backward. |

Nationwide.com and MyNationwide iterative test report |
As the functional redesign of MyNationwide has progressed and we have incorporated the redesign of the Nationwide brand, a number of question have arisen. This usability test was designed to look at some of the functionality and provide direction for further design work |

The 3 thumbnails shown below represent initial designs bringing together functional requirements and brand integration for the visual design. |

MyNationwide Account Summary - Simple version |
||
MyNationwide Account Summary - Complex version Both the simple and complex versions show the same page with different data, depending on the user who has logged in. This page has consumed the bulk of the functional redesign effort of MyNationwide. The information shown here was previously displayed on about 5 different pages. The usability engineering effort has taken several rounds of testing and design iteration. The system requirements limit what can be done. There was no effort involved in changing any system on the backend. Instead, we looked at what data the user would want to see immediately after log-in and then figure out the best way to link to the activity they would need to do. While the complex page still presents some confusion for the user, we have greatly improved this page as compared to the page it will replace. |
||
MyNationwide Form Page Example Since the account summary page was determined to require the most effort and would produce the biggest payback, most of the remaining pages received only a visual redesign. The visual redesign is part of an update of the Nationwide brand. This page shows existing functionality with the results of the brand redesign applied to it. |

This is a visual diagram of MyNationwide showing the grouping of pages, their connection to the home page. Each item is numbered and will be keyed to another document which is in development that describes each page. |

Nationwide.com Brand Redesign These 2 images represent work I did for a redesign of Nationwide.com. These designs were based on previously completed print design guidelines. This was a project by committee. After my individual work (shown here) was done, it went to the committee. At that time a number of changes were decided upon to deviate from the previously completed brand redesign work. |

May 2005 |
After completing previous work for integrating billing into the MyNationwide self-service site, heuristic analysis of MyNationwide and wireframes for page design, this usability test was undertaken to validate the design direction. |
|
April 2005 |
These wireframes represent initial ideas on how to represent functional improvement in a usable interface design. They are based on the previously completed heuristic analysis and initial business requirement. They were then used in a usability test to validate design direction. |

February - March 2005 |
This document was the initiation of our functional redesign of the MyNationwide self-service site. Each page was reviewed to look for enhancements based on my knowledge of usability engineering principles and past testing of MyNationwide. |
